Kaech'ŏn

Located in north-central South Phyongan Province. The city's surrounding areas are a mining and heavy manufacturing center, like neighboring Pyongannamdo cities Anju and Tokchon. Since its charter in 1990 by the CCKWP, the population has risen to around 400,000. It was upgraded by the Central Committee from Kaech'ŏn-gun (Kaechon County) in September of 1990.
